Exero Blog Anniversary: Highlights and Articles from 2018

Guess what! We’re celebrating the one-year anniversary of the Exero blog! We’re very happy to have made it this far and we want to give a huge thanks to all of you wonderful people that have followed us all this time. To commemorate the day, we’ve decided to compile a list of the most interesting, useful, and fun fragments from our favorite articles in the Exero blog. Enjoy!

  1. The Hodor Dilemma

hodor traducciónOne of our most recent articles is also one of the most fun and interesting. This article is the first installment of what will be an on-going series about historic challenges in translation. Make sure to stay tuned for the next one which will be coming out shortly.

In this article we focus on the loveable Hodor from HBO’s Game of Thrones. I could tell you why this character posed such a great challenge for translators and how it was solved but … why don’t you just take a look for yourself?

  1. Terrifying Tales of Translation

With this article we took a different approach to translation than we normally do in the Exero blog. Rather than fantastic advice for translators and enlightening explanations for our clients, we celebrated Halloween with three scary short stories … about translation of course!

You can read "All Night Long, All Night Long," "Because of One Little Error," and "The Silence of the Brothers-in-law" HERE.

  1. A Day in the Life of a Professional Translator

We came up with the idea for this article listening to the Beatle’s song “A day in the life.” It gives our readers a glimpse into the activities that make up our daily lives from the time we wake up until we go to bed. Although its all composed in the comedy clef, many translators have told us just how much they identify with the article

  1. Survival Guide for an Urgent Translation

When you start to read this article, take a moment to truly appreciate the masterful poem at the beginning. Not even Poe can hold a candle to us.

Following the poem is a step-by-step guide on how to survive the nightmares that an urgent translation can entail. Everything you need to know about urgent translations and a little bit more, all in a condensed format and full of laughs. Out of all of our helpful articles, this one is towards the top of the list. Check it out HERE.

  1. Transcreation: What is it and Why is it Important?

We take an in-depth look at a fascinating subject that you could write a whole book on: transcreation. Our favorite part was uncovering gems during our research, such as Pavitr Prabhakar, the Indian Spiderman. Pavitr is a superhero transcreated for the city of Mubai who fights traditional indian demons inspired by the classic villains of the original Spiderman. But this is just one of the many examples and curious creations that we mention in the article. If you haven’t read it yet, what are you waiting for?!

Moreover, this article was a turning point for our writing style and tone; we started to combine more (and funnier) jokes with fun translation facts, to make better use of images, and we redesigned the cover images. Did you know? The first version of this article was nothing like the final published version. We completely rewrote it.

  1. Five Tips for Maintaining Your Language Skills

The title says it all. In this article we give some great advice on how to refresh and maintain your command of a second, third, or fourth language. Like it or not, you’re bound to get rusty in a language if you don’t use it often. If you don’t want all of those hours of hard work learning southern Gaelic to go to waste, you better get in gear and start training. These tips will help you get your head back in the game.

  1. Seven Tips on How to Find a Job with a Degree in Translation

This was one of our first articles and also the most representative of our way of thinking. At Exero, we want to help all new translators as much as possible in their first steps in the translation industry. After all, it’s a very competitive market and it’s not easy to get into without experience. Since then, we’ve had a number of ideas on how to bring more advice to those who need it. Expect to see some news soon. But, until then, take a look at those 7 tips HERE.

And for everything to come…🎉🎊

This is just the first step. The Exero ideas factory has been working overtime and so we’ve got a lot to say about translation. If you want to join us for the second year of the Exero blog journey, don’t forget to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram to stay up to date on future articles. Thanks for reading along with us until now and we hope you come back to the Exero blog soon. Hasta pronto!
